Research has shown that luck of sunshine, fresh air and air conditioning systems can lead to skin/allergy problems because indoor environs are perfect for antigens to thrive. Many people are predisposed to suffer a number of health conditions including mental health problems, heart disease, cancers, and inability to synthesise vitamin D due to the lack of exposure to natural daylight. Deep breathing is reassuring and healing because it improves your biochemistry and calms your nervous system. When you are stressed out the blood is not being properly oxygenated, this creates tension and too much waste product in your system which can only lead to an array of ailments. Many endurance and strength athletes (i.e., long distance runners and cyclists) train in high altitudes to increase sports performance. This is because at higher altitudes there is less oxygen available than at sea level. Thus, the body adapts to this shortfall by creating more red blood cells. Research has shown that this cardiovascular adaptation enhances sports performance and overall fitness/well-being. Experts suggest that exercising outdoors can boost your fat-burning mechanisms because the adrenal glands will force the fat cells to release fat for fuel to keep you going. In addition, under extreme cold weather conditions the brain pumps more blood around the body at an increased rate which in turn will give the body a huge oxygen rush. For example, kriotherapy (i.e., form of treatment exposing the body to -110 /-140 degrees Centigrade) is being used to treat conditions including insomnia and arthritis. The benefits of living up in the mountains are unquestionable. For example, people suffering of seasonal affective disorder (SAD) due to lack of sunlight during the winter are advised to spend some time in ski resorts as the blue sky and fresh air can improve their depression and fatigue. Nature has a soothing effect so spending some time outdoors can only boost your immune system as well as improve your memory. |
